Mighty Mouth Productions

Mighty Mouth productions was born out of Jo Newsholme and Joanna Tonge’s love of all things audio and the desire to create great audio content.

Jo Newsholme

Jo has been working in radio and podcast production for the past 15 years. As a fledgling producer, she founded community radio station Drystone Radio in the Yorkshire Dales before moving to London to pursue a career in talk radio and production with Global Radio and LBC 97.3. Jo won several Sony Radio and Arqiva awards as producer of the Nick Ferrari Breakfast show, and worked with some of the giants of broadcasting like James Whale and James O'Brien. In 2012 Jo moved to Manchester to join BBC Radio 5 Live, where she worked on live, current affairs programming with Victoria Derbyshire, Richard Bacon and more recently Nihal Arthanayake. She also began to work on video content production for the Digital North team, and moved into podcast production and script-writing. Jo co-produced Kevin Pietersen: Beast of Man, a podcast about the former England cricketer's mission to save rhinos from extinction in South Africa; she worked with BBC Education to produce a podcast about LGBQT+ history in Manchester, 'Gaychester: In This Place', with talent like Nick Grimshaw and Phil Lester; and she worked with campaigner Gina Martin on a special series for BBC Sounds called Gina's Game Changers. Jo left the BBC in early 2020 to focus on her own exciting production projects with Mighty Mouth.

Joanna Tonge

Joanna started her career within TV production after completing a mediocre media degree 20 years ago. She landed her first industry job as a runner on a corporate video. She thought the job of a runner was to run so spent the week running from Director to Producer, to cast members, to client - doing whatever was asked of her. Thankfully, her enthusiasm paid off and she was offered a job as a Production Assistant at Equinox TV in Salford. Here she remained for nearly 5 years and worked her way up to Senior Producer learning the entire commercials production process along the way. Her next job was as a Producer at Chief Productions in Manchester where she worked on TV Commercials, Music Videos and Documentaries. Following a period of freelance producing and child rearing Joanna set up Mighty Mouth with husband Ben with the idea of matching up great comedy talent with great scripts for voice-over work. Mighty Mouth has provided voice-overs for Nivea, Cadbury, Iceland and Ronseal and worked with acclaimed advertising agencies such as Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi and Mother.

With a desire to still produce, Joanna has teamed up with Jo Newsholme to produce audio content through Mighty Mouth Productions.

New Work

We were over the moon to secure funding via The Audio Content Fund to produce a 10 x 1hr show for FunKids called ‘My Life’.

'My Life’ is about the lives of children from around the UK - told in their own words and to the backdrop of their own playlist. The result is a quirky, heartwarming and fascinating insight into the lives of young children in a broad range of cities, towns and countryside villages around the UK. They talk about their hobbies, their religion, their families and their upbringing, and they take the FunKids listeners out and about with them as they get up to all sorts - including BMXing, skateboarding, climbing Mount Snowdon and paddleboarding off the coast of Wales.

The show is broadcast every Sunday at 4pm through October - December with podcasts available on the below link:

We are delighted to say that ‘My Life’ has won a Silver in the ‘Best Music Entertainment Show’ category at the ARIAS 2023.
